How many friends have you made because of Twitter?I would posit that for most people the answer to the first question would be zero and for the second I'd bet it's certainly more than one.

The bulk of my income over the last two years has been a direct result of connections made on Twitter. Facebook hasn't paid me shit!
That's why I've never understood the pro-Facebook people who say Twitter is stupid. I don't like Facebook but I get why others do - it's a great way to keep in touch with other people (who only use Facebook). Most of them just don't get that some of us actually like making *new* friends and finding *new* opportunities. Of course I realize I'm preaching to the choir here.
I think it may have more to do with how you use either. I've use each. I've met quite a few very cool people on FB.
